                                          The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.
                             Every morning a new arrival.

                            A joy, a depression, a meanness,
                            some momentary awareness comes
                            as an unexpected visitor.

                            Welcome and entertain them all!
Even if they are a crowd of sorrows,
                            who violently sweep your house
                            empty of its furniture,
                            still, treat each guest honourably.
He may be clearing you out
                            for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice.
meet them at the door laughing and invite them in.

                           Be grateful for whatever comes.
                           because each has been sent
                           as a guide from beyond.

                                            - Jelaluddin Rumi,

                                 translation by Coleman Barks

This Rumi poem with it's allowing everything to be , it's welcoming of all that is in consciousness  complements The Sedona Method perfectly. I'm still processing the week's retreat, my dreams are full of America and the work we did there. It is great to allow it all to unfold naturally in it's own way and reveal it's lessons as the days move on.  One of the benefits of going away on retreat or giving yourself a retreat at home is it allows space for the subconscious to become more conscious. We are often so busy that there isn't the time to " treat each guest honourably " and so they don't get time to do their work of guiding us to something beyond our present state of being.
